So I have been asked to write kara requirements for the prot warrior, So im going to do exactly that, and a little bit more. I hope that these will answer all your questions and help you out in the end game world. Enjoy
First thing im going to issue about is: Gear and stats for kara.
Part one: Attunment - Opera event
HP: 12000+
Armor: 12000+
Dodge block and parry and dodge all together: 60%
Defense: 490+
Note: To fit these requirements OUTSIDE of kara is very easy. Run instances and heroics…or craft the gear with BS
Here is a list of pre kara gear that is easy to get and available to all! http://www.tankspot.com/forums/gear-lists-rankings/31940-polars-easy-pre-karazhan-tank-gear-list.html
Part two: Curator and up
HP: 13000+
Armor 14000+
Dodge Block and parry and dodge all combined: 65%+
Note: these are pretty much minimal requirements in order to down the bosses with ease. I don't want to sound rude, cruel or mean, but anything less than these requirements for kara will be doing nothing but hurting the entire raid group. Like I said these stats are NOT hard to get.
Alright now that is all said and done I will give advice on Enchanting your gear.
Head piece: There is a head enchant from the CoT merchant, you need to be revered to buy this, and it will cost 90g
Shoulders: Aldor or Scryer merchant.
Chest: +150 health
Belt: N/A
Gloves: +2% Threat or Stam if you are already doing decent TPS
Bracers: +12 Stam
Legs: Clef hide armor kit, there are two good one for tanks, one is +30 Stam and one is +40 Stam
Boots: I am using Armor kits that give +8 Stam to my boots, but i am sure there is better. [I will update later]
Cape: +120Armor[i/]
Shield: [i]+18 Stam
Weapon: As of now the best one for tanks is the mongoose Enchant, cost roughly about 400G. I hear the battle Master enchant is good as well
Gems and your gear
All my Gems are +12 Stam they have higher ones too…
Meta Gem: +18 Stam +5% Resist stuns
Al right, i have been getting some questions about this.
"Psyto, why do you only stack stam gems, don't you need dodge, block, defense or parry?"
Well sure you do, but all my gear gives me PLENTY of these these stats.
Also i don't want to rely on dodging blocking or parrying, because if and when i do get hit by a boss, such as grull or Prince (which does 12k damage in about 10 seconds) i simply wont have the health to back me up for these hits. "Murphy's Law — if you can have long strings of not Dodging an attack, it will definitely happen. Raid tanking, ultimately, is about stability."
Another thing is, I don't get rage or produce threat when i dodge or parry (ok i get +1 rage when i block, big numbers =)
No rage means less threat, if i have a BIG Health pool to back up all the hits im taking i will still get plently of rage and be able to produce my threat.
Many healers will also say it is MUCH easier to heal a Stam warrior than an avoidance Warrior.
This topic is widely debated and discussed.
Thanks to Ciderhelm we have a complete and detailed information about this topic here http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=91629683&postId=915014513&sid=1
Every tank SHOULD read that!
Threat
Assuming you know what threat is.
a good TPS (threat per second) is roughly 800+ if you can stay around there your doing good!
Here is a complete guide to threat. http://www.tankspot.com/forums/evil-empire-guides/33108-guide-threat.html
Attacks to use, and maximizing your threat
I have been getting questions about this, this is hard however because everybody plays differently.
here a baseline
Heroic strike for rage dump, cuases alot of threat
Shield Slam your most threat generating attack, i use every time its up
Sunder..of coarse
Revenge I use every time its up
Shield block, i use every time its up, on bosses, if you don't hit shield block every possible moment you can, your risk of wiping is much greater.
Demoralizing should be on the target at all times
Thunder clap should be on the target at all times.
Devastate, i do use frequently, not just to renew my sunders.
Conculsion
I am done for now, and I will update this frequently
As you can see i spent alot of time researching this Info and have things to back it up.
Any additional questions please ask me in this thread, most likely you wont be the only person with that question
